Extreme Backpackers, Vertical Assault Indoor Climbing Wall and the Red Crater Cafe - for sale in Turangi

The three facilities of Backpacker accommodation, Climbing Wall and Internet Cafe are offered for sale following the decision of the owners and operators - Roger and Sue to retire. In 1999 they purchased vacant land in the Turangi township, approximatel 100 metres from the town centre and built a 17 room single story backpackers complex.

The Backpackers complex has a wonderful Kitchen, Dining Room and Lounge facility, probably some of the best to see in the country which no doubt settles on a high quality standard for the benefit of Backpackers of all ages as well as the independent traveller. The accommodation facilities are accessed by verandas creating a courtyard effect which also provides great indoor / outdoor flow.

In 2002 the adjoining property was purchased and a purpose built facility was constructed to house the Vertical Assault Climbing Wall and the Red Crater internet Cafe.

The vertical climbing wall is rated as one of the best in the country proving to be very popular with visitors from overseas, school groups, clubs and New Zealand locals.

The Cafe is a nice and classy style coffee shop with good food at affordable prices. The internet facilities in the Cafe and Backpackers accommodation area are popular with those visiting and staying at this facility. The cafe is currently leased-out but can be returned to the owners to operate if needed.

Brokers Comments

This complex consisting of Accommodation, Cafe and a Sporting facility is a unique investment combination. The accommodation facility links up well with the other two facilities providing good business opportunities from feeding off of each other.

This is a steady business with very good potential for the new owner to expand on where the developers and current owners have left off. A great opportunity for the young at heart who enjoy the excitement of being busy and actively promoting the facility and the Central Plateau as a rapidly developing tourist loaction in New Zealand.

Turangi, Central Plateau

Turangi has a residential population of 4,500 and has a very strong tourism infrastructure. For the outdoor enthusiast it is hugely popular not just for it's trout fishing but as it is the gateway to the Tongariro National Park. The wonderful surrounding countryside also offers skiing, hunting, mountain climbing, white water rafting, kayaking and hiking to name a few activities.

Possibly one of the most popular reasons to stop over in Turangi is to hike the Tongariro Crossing or the Northern Circuit treks around the mountains of the plateau region. Both of these hikes are world renowned for their spectacular scenery and popular in both winter and summer.
