Dunedin is best known for its picturesque harbour setting, lively student population and Scottish heritage. It's the second largest city in the South Island, is considered one of the country's four main centres for its colonial history and prominence within the Otago region and the South Island with the city population at 5 March 2013 was 120,246. Dunedin is surrounded by dramatic hills and at the foot of a long, picturesque harbour, Dunedin is one of the best-preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere.
Tourism - Dunedin attracts about 2 million visitors annually, with New Zealanders making up the majority of the numbers. There is an average of 5500 visitors daily, many of whom have made the trip south to see Dunedin’s renowned wildlife and heritage for themselves. A growing part of this sector is the cruise ship industry, with 84 ship visits bringing 200,000 visitors during the 2011/12 season.
Otago Peninsula - the views are endless and the beaches are beautifully rugged. Nestled at the foot of Taiaroa Head is the Royal Albatross Centre, the only place in the world on the mainland where you can view Northern Royal Albatross in their natural habitat. On Dunedin’s doorstep you will also find incredible wildlife including the world’s rarest penguin colonies.
University city - The city's largest industry is tertiary education – Dunedin is home to the University of Otago, New Zealand's first university (established 1869), and the Otago Polytechnic. Students account for a large proportion of the population; 21.6 percent of the city's population was aged between 15 and 24 at the 2006 census, compared to the New Zealand average of 14.2 percent.

TripAdvisor Reviews - what the guests are saying:
“Perfect” [5 of 5 stars]
I am a regular business visitor to Dunedin and I always choose to stay at the Apartments. Friendly service, spacious clean rooms and great value. Free wifi and a kitchen. Perfect spot for a beer and a meal at the Starfish cafe just around the corner. Brilliant.
“Best place to stay in Dunedin!” [5 of 5 stars]
Absolutely fantastic place, rooms are beautifully presented and the views to the ocean are unbeatable! Hosts are amazing, very comfortable and welcoming. Will only stay here when in Dunedin! Location is great, right on the beach with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Thanks again!
“Waking up to the sound of waves” [5 of 5 stars]
We had a 1 bedroom apartment on top floor with stunning views over the St Clair and St Kilda beach. Nicely decorated with style, comfortable bed with warm blankets. The lounge was cosy with a great heater which made the place nice and warm. The 3rd bed was in the lounge and worked well for us. The kitchen is separate and has all you need, even a plunger (bring coffee). Excellent place to stay if you have a car and don't want to be in the centre of Dunedin. Lovely restaurants within a few minutes walking distance.
“Great two night stay” [5 of 5 stars]
Perfect apartments, loved the decor the owner was really friendly and very helpful with lots of local knowledge. Very clean with a good kitchen with everything you would need, but with some great places to eat just round the corner.
“A quiet and pleasant place” [5 of 5 stars]
We often visit Dunedin and really enjoyed the location at St Clair. The apartment had separate living, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom- apart from the bedroom- all were small but immaculate. The decor is tasteful and everything was very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a quiet night's sleep and we loved walking beside the sea before breakfast the next morning.
“Great spot out of the city” [5 of 5 stars]
Spent 5 nights at the St Clair apartments and what a fantastic find they have been. We were fortunate to get a top floor room with views over St Clair beach. Great choice of 4 or 5 eating establishments all in walking distance. Only a 5 minute drive to the CBD and excellent facilities. Spotless clean, our room was serviced every day ! Will certainly return here on our next visit.
“Amazing Mansion” [5 of 5 stars]
We stayed here for three nights and wished we could have stayed for longer. We were on the top floor (3rd) and had amazing views of the Pacific Surf. We were entertained by the surfers on the big rollers. The bed was large and very comfortable and as with all our accommodation in NZ had dual electric blankets. There was a plug-in oil filled radiator if needed. The bathroom was a large wet room. The Kitchen was equiped with all the conveniences of home. The lounge was again a large room with sofa, easy chair with a table and chairs by the window allowing views of the surfers whilst having breakfast. All in all very comfortable accommodation. The Apartments are very close to cafes, bars and restaurants. Garaging for your car was available on a first come basis, with free on street parking for the unlucky ones,
