REGIONAL FEATURES & INFORMATION
Roxburgh is a stunningly beautiful fruit growing hub and recreational paradise.
Roxburgh is 30 minutes south of Alexandra in the Teviot Valley. It is flanked by rocky, tussock-clad high country and nestled on the mighty Clutha River. The Old Man Range and Mount Benger to the west are magnificent especially with a dusting of snow. The valley always looks spectacular whether in full spring blossom or blanketed in autumn’s golden and red hues.
A pleasant walk around the main township exposes historical buildings, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Enjoy one of New Zealand's 'world famous' Jimmy’s pies and visit the children’s playground opposite. Roxburgh is an excellent base for walking, four wheel drive and Central Otago cycle trails. An extensive brochure is available to guide you to lookouts, dam and mining interpretations, high country views, bridge crossings and picnic spots.
North of Roxburgh is the awesome Roxburgh Hydro Dam, lake and village. Built in the 1950s, the resulting lake has outstanding fishing and recreation opportunities. Trees surround a tranquil camping area and swimming spot at Pinders Pond on the east side of the Clutha River, just south of Roxburgh. The Teviot Museum provides a full journey into the area’s history and dam building period.

What Roxburgh Motel guests are saying:
A great place to stay ★★★★★
We were on a three week South Island trip and travelling from the West Coast to Invercargill. I’d planned a night at Geraldine then wanted to stay two nights in Roxburgh. Using TripAdvisor and booking.com I’d chosen the Roxburgh Motel. We arrived quite late in the day (about 4.30pm from memory) and were greeted by a very nice lady. She showed us to our accommodation, we were in Room 1 which had two bedrooms and it’s own carport! We are used to sleeping in a king sized bed, and we don’t sleep well if we share anything smaller which is why we’d booked the two bedroomed unit – a double or queen in one bedroom, and two singles in the other. A very quiet street and the motel was very quiet as we only had one neighbour who we never heard. The rooms were a really good size. Beds were very comfortable. There was very good fast wifi, which is free. I would definitely recommend this motel, and if we stay in Roxburgh again this is where we’ll stay. As an aside, we dined at Nic’s Kitchen, in Roxburgh's main street, on our last night. There is no listing for it on TripAdvisor but we really enjoyed our meal there and would definitely recommend it.
Nice motel! ★★★★★
Friendly owners, nice warm modern units, great location. Stayed here at the end of the Roxburgh Cycle Trail, would recommend this motel to anyone looking for a clean modern motel, will stay here again if i the area.
Great place to stay! ★★★★★
Our stay was shortly planned and we were lucky to get the last room. Clean and had all you needed. Comfortable bed and handy kitchenette. We would definitely return. There were laundry facilities if needed.
Very comfortable stop ★★★★★
We found this to be a very good place to stop. Although older, it has recently been upgraded and was spotlessly clean. Well equipped, and a very good bed and pillow. Easy walking distance to town and being just off the main road meant it is very quiet. We will be back!
