Attention to Detail ★★★★★

Friendly host Russell on the phone when we booked a twin room. We phoned first, to make sure they were actually open, now in Covid-19 Level 1. Very friendly and calm atmosphere. What struck us most was the attention to detail. So many little fixes to help “backpacker-proof” this great hostel, obviously Russell has learned a lot about hosting backpackers over 15 years . Clear locations for kitchen utensils, lots of clean teatowels, lots of interesting books and information. The fire and separate lounge were welcoming on a rainy evening. Clean and comfortable twin room, and shared bathrooms were also very clean. Hot tub wasn’t available, understandably, and we didn’t see any of the outside areas. The Global Village theme was a point of difference. Close to the supermarket. Quiet. Room was spacious enough.

A Bright Spot in Greymouth ★★★★★

Very clean, bright and appealing place to stay for a night or longer! Beautiful art everywhere in bright colors, nice kitchen and seating area! Comfy sleeping arrangements with ladies toilet/showers a door down the hallway. Within walking distance of the stony beach with the most beautiful sunset! The main town area we drove to to walk around – found the most delicious bakery (of course I can’t remember the name but had these yummy iced ginger cookies!!!). Staff very friendly and parking was great! Would love to go back!

First experience at a “backpackers” and won’t be the last based on Global Village. I had booked my own room which was large, clean and colourful – even had by own outside deck area. Kitchen, bathrooms, lounge and other communal areas were equally clean, well-equipped, organised and the global art decor gives the place a really cosy feel which in itself creates a great atmosphere to engage with fellow guests/travellers. Highly recommended.

Loved this hostel. One of my favourites. It has everything you need. It’s homely and comfy and characterful. The owner is friendly and helpful. Dorms are comfy. Good facilities. It’s full of quirky global art and influence. Feels really nice.”

Free shuttle service available. Free coffee, sugar, salt and black pepper available. Walking distance to Monteith’s Brewery and Santa Fe Milk (fish & chips). Clean and neat kitchen. Friendly hostel owner, Mr. Russell who introduce the places in Greymouth during the journey bring me to hostel. Kayak, sauna and bike are available but I didn’t try it.

5/5 | Lovely backpacker. One of my fav in New Zealand I think. Many activities is available (gym room, sauna, bike, etc…). The dorm room is nice & quiet. The kitchen and living room are nice. You can spend time very easily.

5/5 | Homey, cozy, and clean. This is THE hostel you want to stay. It’s worth to visit Greymouth to stay at this hostel. The kitchen has a lot of space, bathrooms are always nice and clean, rooms are useful and comfortable. You’ll see lots of art too.
