Murupara Motor Camp allows an astute buyer entering the Holiday Park, Camping Grounds accommodation sector, an excellent entry level opportunity to build this great business up to the next level, whist living in a truly beautiful, unique and natural part of New Zealand!

The current owners have developed a number of income streams for the camp, which is the largest accommodation provider in the region.

Due to an offer of employment elsewhere, they are having to sell this business as soon as possible and are prepared to meet the market in order to move on.

Murupara Motor Camp has been operating for 44 years and has two main concrete block accommodation blocks consisting of 22 rooms, including 1 x 2 bedroom self contained motel unit, 1 x super King (split) room, 6 x Queen rooms and the balance as twin or bunks. There are 29 powered sites and in the 2.6 hectares of grounds, enough room for 30 non-powered sites and up to 60 tent sites. The camp also features four dumping stations. Permanent tenants make up part of the camp income.

All Rafting Tourism Operations on the Rangitaiki River and the Aniwhenua are based at the camp, which provides a steady income stream, as does the ability to fish for trout all year round on the Rangitaiki river; one of the few places in the North Island where this can happen.

The communal ablution blocks and kitchens have recently been refurbished.

The Motor Camp is ideal for food and beverage catering as a separate complex offers a large kitchen and function rooms for up to 100 guests, and this complex also acts as a commercial dining room for bush contractors and construction workers, staying on site during the off season, who can take over most of the Motor Camp when conducting construction works in the area.

Other facilities include an onsite twin spa bath and a small swimming pool, however the large public 50m swimming pool is just over the fence of the Motor Camp! Plus a guest BBQ area has been established near the lounge, which has a pool/table tennis options, plus TV.

Just 30 minutes out of Rotorua and an hour out of Taupo in the other direction, Murupara is a town of 1200 population located in the Central North Island of New Zealand. The surrounding area has a population of 3,800.  It is seen as the gateway to one of the Great Walks of New Zealand around Lake Waikaremoana and is also the western entry point to the Te Urewera ancient Rainforest and the Whirinaki Forest.

The town is situated in an isolated part of the Bay of Plenty region between the Kaingaroa Forest and Te Urewera National Park, on the banks of the Rangitaiki River, 65 kilometres southeast of Rotorua, along SH38. Murupara is the terminus of the Murupara Branch railway. Its principal industries are all related to forestry, with tourism being developed by the local iwi and dairy farming. The name Murupara means “muddy feet”.

Galatea Valley, of which Murupara is part, provides very long and usually very hot summers which are perfect for the holiday season. The winters are cold but dry and most of the rainfall (which is not a lot) occurs in spring.

Many years ago, Murupara was a staging post on the road between Rotorua and Napier. In the early 1900s, the planting of exotic trees began on the surrounding scrubland. This area is now known as the Kaingaroa Forest, with 1890 square kilometres of planted pines.

The settlements of Galatea, Horomanga, Kopuriki, Aniwhenua, Waiohau and Murupara lie between the boundary of the Kaingaroa Forest, the popular Te Urewera National Park and Whirinaki Forest Park. Earlier history is also evident around Murupara. In a rock shelter approximately eight kilometres west of the town centre are a number of ancient cave drawings left in the caves of a long past Maori tribe.

Murupara is an ideal base to explore the Central Bay of Plenty including a walk through ancient rain forests and marvel at the Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi canyon, catch a trout with a local expert as your guide, white water rafting, horse riding, relaxing in nature’s unparalleled hot water creek, a walk through the amazing colours of the Wai-O-Tapu, a boat trip at Waimangu, experience the World’s Largest Beercan museum, antique tractors and cars, a tour into the Te Urewera Forest, a visit to the Busybee Apiarists, a visit to Fort Galatea or Mangamate Falls, experience a Kiwi Jet Tour or Kayaking.

Hunting and Fishing Guides available in the area.

Cheap and cheerful ★★★★

Useful if you want transport into Te Urewera or the Whirinaki FP.

I stay there for a week ★★★★★

Really nice place to stay and camp. Cozy rooms, big kitchen, clean toilets – all you need. Place is run by very friendly and helpful Kiwi couple. You can also do many activities like rafting. There is a lot of space, good WiFi conection and cheap laundry service.

A great place for great holidays! ★★★★★

I was more than 2 weeks in Murupara Motor camp and I really enjoyed it ! It’s a very pleasant and quiet place to have holidays. People there are very nice and Helen and Wayne are really welcoming. I recommend you to stop here to have good time, and for a good value for your money!

Can’t wait till next year! ★★★★★

We had an absolutely beautiful holiday here. NZ how it used to be. Helen and Wayne are wonderful hosts. The BEST. Did I say THE best? Shared their venison with us, found out ahead of time whether the local store stocked gluten-free stuff, recommended local swimming spots and things to do. Great chats and fun. And there is so much to do in this area. Just a hop and a skip away from Rotorua and all its attractions, including the magnificent Redwoods. There’s a wonderful cafe in Murupara itself – the Station Cafe – and a roadside stall which sells the most delicious corn I have ever eaten in my life. We are already planning and looking forward to what we’ll do during next year’s visit. Thanks again, Wayne and Helen, for giving us such a great time. Couldn’t have asked for a better first holiday with my honey. Hugely recommend..

Great, friendly, clean, amazing! ★★★★★

Me and a friend stayed at this camp with our campervan and enjoyed it thoroughly. Unfortunately I got a little sun burnt (second degree burns) and was placed on strict bed rest. As we went to Murupara medical centre (great medical centre and only 2-3 mins away). We decided to come back and stay in their cabins for 2 nights to rest up. Only cost $30 PP PN. (So cheap!!) And it had everything we needed. Bed, fridge and TV with very close access to the all the facilities I needed (laundry, kitchen, bathroom). All that are extremely clean! They were so accommodating and helpful. The owners were the ones that told me to go to the medical Centre in the first place (which I should had done days before) and they always checked up on me to make sure I was fine throughout my stay! I just felt like I was at home! There is a sweet couple that live on the camp and they were just as lovely and amazing people! (They know who they are! Thank you for ALL your assistance with my issue too!) It felt like a big family! I would just highly recommend this place to anyone! They also do water rafting bookings too! When I go back to NZ I will go out of my way just to go back and visit! Considering my burns staying there was just a highlight knowing that there was such caring, lovely, wonderful people around me who were always willing to help out anyone! Just sitting there with a nice cup of tea having a chat made me feel so welcome! Love love loved it! Thank you Murupara Motorcamp! 😘👍
