All weatherboards, ceilings and most doors are heart kauri. Weatherboards on several sides were covered with a heavy stucco render in the 1950s, which gives it the distinctive castle appearance. The exterior is now painted rich Colonial cream, with burgundy timber joinery and the original 7000 tiled, high pitched Welsh slate roof. In recognition of the huge amount of restoration work done on Warwick House my vendors were presented with the 2009 Environmental Award, in the Heritage Site category. “Wonderful place to stay” Nick & Jenny make you so welcome and create a personal touch that the corporate and ubiquitous motels and hotels can never replicate. The house is one of the oldest in NZ and a finer example of a Victorian home you would struggle to find anywhere in the world. Breakfast was truly wonderful (do try the scrambled eggs) and it’s only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Our first time here, but already looking forward to our next stay. Thank you
“Very special and very romantic place in Nelson! ” Decided to stay in Warwick for 2 nights spontaneously and fell in love with the place, so romantic and so beautifully renovated. Just a 10 min walk to town, and in a very quiet location with a really nice new. Our Victoria suite was spacious and had everything we needed. The host and staff were lovely and helpful and the house dog Vicky is old but very affectionate. Certainly the best place in the area, especially for couples.
“An extraordinary place” Set in an elevated site overlooking Nelson. Described by owner Nick as the oldest homestead in the South Island. Lovingly restored by the owners to its original glory. Really quaint and historically important with a rich history. Well worth a stay to learn about Nelson’s past.
“Special surprise treat night away” At short notice, I arranged with Nick a surprise night for my wife in the Bay View suite. The setting and help received was perfect. The house is truly unique, rich in history and tastefully restored to its former glory. I recommend Warwick House without hesitation, Jenny and Nick were the perfect hosts and ensured we had a memorable stay. Off street parking was great and the setting in the old heart of Nelson is lovely and only a short walk to the City Centre.
