What Omakau Commerical Hotel guests are experiencing:
Fantastic pub meal ★★★★★
After a fairly hard day biking the Rail Trail on a beastly hot day we were booked in to dinner at the Omakau Commercial Hotel as part of our trip arrangements. Our expectations were that it would be standard pub fair, not so, the service, meal quality and meal size were all outstanding.
My chicken pasta dish was beautiful and such a large serve that I could not finish it all. My lovely bride had a lamb shank and rated it as great, and my Sister-in-law was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the vegetable lasagna and salad. Dining room was nicely presented and not noisy or affected by bar noises. The young German wait-person was knowledgeable about the meals, interested, and very efficient. She was a lovely lass and helped make it a really nice evening out. Not a wide menu range but good solid choices across meat, poultry, fish, that suited us well. Good meal for about $30 including drink. If in this town, this is a good choice, and only 2 minutes walk from Mandy’s Accommodation , Studio Units and Cottage where we stayed - another winner by the way.
Best meal in New Zealand ★★★★★
Didn't stay here but had dinner whilst riding the rail trail. Had Lamb Shanks and it was the best meal I had on this trip to New Zealand. Friendly staff, country pub atmosphere. Definitely put it on your list!
Lunch with group of friends ★★★★★
A group of us arrived. We were not booked in but made very welcome. We were offered the special of 2 courses. Excellent food and service. Nothing was a problem to mine hosts. Recommend to anyone. Lovely old hotel.
Wonderful meals in a homely environment ★★★★★
The meals offered in this wonderful old hotel are amongst the best you will find anywhere. The service is friendly, efficient, and welcoming. Our group all chose different items from the menu, and no one was disappointed or would have changed their choice. All in all, a warm and welcoming venue offering great food at very reasonable cost.
What a great dinner! We were offered the $20 two course menu for dinner. There was a choice of 3 entree courses, 6 main courses and 3 deserts. We all had different food, from Seafood Chowders, to Rib eye steaks, to Lamb shanks, Chicken burgers, Apple pie, sticky date pudding and chocolate sundae. Everything was exceptional. The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The service was quick. I just wish we were staying in Omakau another night so could experience the restaurant again!
Fantastic place! ★★★★★
