A good place to stay ★★★★
The Last Resort is ideally placed for your time in Karamea whether you are there for the arches or the estuary or the tracks. Take time to look at the welcoming mosaic when you arrive; a lot of work went into it. The somewhat rustic appearance of the complex fits comfortably into the Karamea environment. The amenities such as the restaurant and the parking are excellent. All you would expect to find in a motel room is there except the lighting is not the best and one chair and two stools for three people? In the restaurant, the continental breakfasts were really good and not expensive while our dinners over the three nights were superb. …
Good and friendly service ★★★★★
We had dinner there as a couple. The pork with scallops were a bit of an interesting combination, but very good. The salmon was a huge portion. We surely didn’t leave hungry. A huge improvement to last time .
Good food and friendly service ★★★★★
Arrived here late in the day and it was our last resort. A real family’ feel to the place. Very welcoming and helpful. It was nice to see it was busy with guests and locals. Good sized room and lots of outlets for charging electronics. A beautiful dinner of lamb rack and nachos. Good laundry facilities. Nice to have a separate toilet in the bathroom too. Lovely place. Lovely hosts.
9/10 “Evening meal always very good. Owners and staff very good. The Name ” The Last Resort ” is very clever !”
9/10 “Great hub for exploring the surroundings. Friendly hosts and great food…all easy so in one place.”
8/10 “Warm well-appointed room. Generous in-room tea, coffee, and kitchenette facilities. Great onsite cafe and restaurant. Great treat after Heaphy!”
5/5 | Staff very welcoming and helpful. Warm and snug accommodation. Food was outstanding thank you for a lovely break.
5/5 | We enjoyed a very nice stay at TLR recently. Although the decor is a bit dated, we had a two bedroom unit which was impeccably clean and spacious. Bar and restaurant were both welcoming and good value for money, with good food to suit many budgets. A step above alot of our experience at other places on the West Coast. A busy spot with a community feel, they clearly have a lot of regular trade, which is a good sign.
4/5 | Staff – friendly, easy going and welcoming. Spot-on food too, didn’t have any vegan options but they were more than happy to make me up a few delicious meals. Stayed in the shared room and it was comfy and clean enough- old school kiwi decor. Great place to come back to at the end of a walk. Definitely recommend.
